Jose Rizal is our national hero. Every Filipino knows his story. Except, maybe, his own child.
The word has found meaning
Not only in words but in letters,
In actions, in pictures,
He was a hero.
With his words, he fought.
With his passion, he saved.
But amidst his purpose, he loved.
He loved his country,
He loved his family,
He loved a great many women;
He loved everything he has ever written.
Nothing is as precious
As when he loved a child.
The child who would have called him,
I wrote this poem long ago–back when I was taking PI100 under Sir Benjamin Mangubat. It was one of his requirements and of course, our theme is about our country’s national hero: Jose Rizal. 🙂
